Current Call to Artists

Passages

What was. What is meant to be.

September 6, 2026 to November 17, 2026

A gate. A doorway. A window, a path, a bridge, an arch. Each is a passage — a marker between what was and what is meant to be.

As Rosh Hashanah opens the new year, we are invited into a season of teshuvah: return, reflection, and renewal. This exhibition asks artists to find that same movement in visual form — the moment of crossing, the threshold before transformation, the space between one chapter and the next.

Passages welcomes work that shows a clear entry or crossing: gates, doorways, windows, paths, bridges, arches, or similar forms. A Judaic or High Holiday lens is welcome but not required — what matters is the passage itself, and what it opens onto.

Introduction

Betzalel Art Gallery is built on the belief that every artist deserves a professional space to show their work — and that the Long Island Jewish community is richer when its artists are seen and celebrated. Three to four times a year, we open our walls to local artists whose work speaks to the themes of the Jewish calendar.

Our submission process is open, inclusive, and welcoming. We are particularly committed to artists who are newer to exhibiting, as well as to established artists who bring depth and experience to our community.

How It Works

  1. Read the Prospectus. The prospectus at the bottom of this page contains everything you need — exhibition theme, submission guidelines, size limitations, and deadlines. Read it carefully before submitting.

  2. Complete the Submission Form. Fill out the submission form below with your contact information and artwork details. All required fields must be completed for your submission to be considered.

  3. Upload Your Artwork Images. The submission form includes a secure link to upload your images — no account needed. You can also access the upload link at the bottom of this page if you need to return to it later.

  4. Rolling Acceptance. We review submissions on a rolling basis as they come in. You do not need to wait until the deadline to hear from us. Submissions close two weeks before the opening reception.

  5. Drop Off Your Work. Accepted artists receive detailed drop-off instructions by email. Please read them carefully. All artwork must be wired and ready to hang, and artwork tags must be fully completed at drop-off. Work that does not meet these requirements will not be hung.

Requirements

  • All artwork must be wired and ready to hang — no sawtooth hangers accepted

  • Artwork tags must be fully completed at drop-off — no exceptions

  • Work must fall within the size guidelines stated in the prospectus

  • Artists may submit up to 5 works per exhibition

  • Submitted work must remain available for the full duration of the exhibition
